username with an "at sign" and PuTTY

Hi all -
I'm having trouble getting PuTTY with a site that has my username as
"user@domain"
When I provide the correct username and password, I'll still get an
"access denied" error.
Is there a workaround or someway to escape the "at sign"? Thanks in
advance.
