PuTTY v0.52 Question: Screen Scrape Functionality Supported or workaround?

I'm trying to screen scrape (extract) some text from inside a PuTTY v0.52
Telnet session(I need to get the user ID from a legacy system into a windows
    application).

I was wondering if anyone had attempted something like this in the past and
    could offer any advice/suggestions.

Some emulators offer an API, but the PuTTY emulator doesn't appear to.
I am constrained in that as of this time i can't switch emulators.

Does the PuTTY emulator have some sort of API / OLE interface? (I couldn't
    find
any mention of its support on the website or documentation)

If not, has anyone had any luck getting anything using some of the Windows
API calls like GetWindowText? (I can get the text from the title bar of
PuTTY doing a search on the PuTTY window classID, but haven't been able to
get access to the actual contents yet)

    Any suggestions appreciated.
