Here's a really odd one:
I have MacOS X running ssh (whatever the latest one Apple has, probably the
most current or 2nd most current openssh):
I recently got kicked off of DirecTV DSL (static IP) to Earthlink (dynamic
IP). I set up a program to post my external IP to a website (works fine).
Here's where this gets weird:
sftp localhost (from my terminal, sitting in front of my computer)
Type password, type "ls" -- all is well with the world.
Sftp username@(earthlink assigned internal dynamic ip)
Type password, type "ls", all still works fine.
sftp username@(my dynamic ip as seen from the outside world) (from outside
Earthlink, usually from campus -- this external ip is NOT the same as the
internal earthlink assigned ip)
I get a prompt, but when I type "ls" and the system completely stalls until,
after maybe 10 minutes, I get:
Read from remote host [my dynamic IP]: Connection reset by peer
Connection closed
ssh username@(my external earthlink dynamic ip) --> everything works fine!
I can connect and do whatever (including "ls"), so its not that I'm not
connecting.
I assume ls has some weirdness with internal and external IP addresses (I
forgot to mention, I have a cheapo DSL router, that worked fine with
Directv). Any guesses why I'm getting this stall? The whole point of this
exercise is so I can get files from elsewhere off my sftp server, but
without ls its pretty hard!
