Richard,
I understand that you wrote the book on this (literally), as I own it
and was using it as a guide to get this working, and I also understand
from googling for help prior to posting that you regularly answer an
enormous number of queries from people struggling with various
implementation issues. I have used many of those responses in the past
to help me with some of my problems. I just read your phrasing as being
very snippy. I guess I misinterpreted your intention. I truly *do*
appreciate the hints of possible problems that your response provided,
as I was not aware of some of those issues before. I'm sorry you read
my response as snippy as well - I make a huge effort when posting
queries on problems to include all the info. I think relevant and to
exclude that which is irrelevant, as I know that regular helpers like
yourself wade through a lot of extraneous information.

PS: For the google record, I have solved the problem - it was failing
due to a combination of name resolution issues and an oddly configured
hosts.allow file on the server.
