gnomemeeting works fine over a VPN. If you are running Debian GNU/Linux
on both ends of the network, you could use the secvpn package to create
such a VPN using ppp and ssh. This setup works great for me, and IMHO
it's much easier than setting up a gatekeeper or proxy for gnomemeeting.
I'm not sure whether secvpn exists for other distributions...
