This has nothing to do with the VPN issue. You're using a protocol-1-only
key with protocol 2. Also:
1) read http://www.snailbook.com/faq/no-passphrase.auto.html
2) This VPN technique is notoriously bad because of issues of poorly
interacting flow control mechanisms in layered TCP connections (i.e.,
using TCP transport for IP datagram service which may in turn have
other TCP connections running on top of it, does not work well).
