I suppose so. It still sounds as if it would look a bit messy to me,
though I suppose I can always defend it on grounds of binary size -
having two different means of displaying a login prompt is a
pointless waste of space.

Yes; in that case that isn't really what I meant. The implication of
the SSH2 multiple-sessions capability is that you shouldn't need to
reauthenticate at all once you've started a session - so if you fire
up a DOS box and run PSCP, for example, you might quite like it to
send its data over your existing session instead of requiring your
password from you again. Those of us who use Pageant don't care so
much about this, but people who stick to password authentication
might well find it invaluable.
The thing is, that would involve a fair amount of IPC between
cooperating PuTTY processes, and furthermore it would have to be
possible to turn it off in the cause of simplicity and
predictability. None of which is simple.
I suppose that lot doesn't really come under `user interface', so I
admit I didn't phrase my initial question too well. Sorry.
