I want to learn how to tunnel nntp to a winows box, newsreader client.
I know how to do this on unix and the same port forwarding scheme
works from the windows box using the Putty tools.
I forwared my port 2019 to server, bouncing it thru a remote account I
have account I have
The equivalent of:
ssh -l USER -L2019:remote.nntp.com:119 remote.accnt.com
Remote.nntp.com sees the connection as comming from remote.accnt.com
All that can be done in putty. I can then start another putty session
and `telnet localhost 2019', to get to the server.
So all the bits are in place. Where I'm having a problem is figuring
out how to tell the newsreader on the winX machine how to connect to
localhost 2019.
I've tried every addressing scheme I can think of in the server name
position
localhost 2019
localhost:2019
127.0.0.1 2019
127.0.0.1:2019
NET.ADD.07 2019
NET.ADD.07:2019
All of these fail with an message like `unknown address'
The newsreader is Forte-AGent. But I'd like to connect with Netscape
too. Don't have NS handy at the moment. What do I need to put in
Forte-agent dialog for server name?
