I'm accessing my Linux POP server through SSL (openssh) from my WinXP
machine running MS Outlook. Whenever Outlook starts up and attempts it
first connection to my POP server, I get an ugly dialog box telling me:
Internet Security Warning
The server you are connected to is using a certificate that could not be
verified.
A certificate chain processed, but terminated in a root certificate
which is not trusted by the trust provider.
Do you want to continue using this server?
Answering "yes" to this question makes everything work fine. However, how
to I make it so this dialog doesn't come up all the time? I've looked in my
/etc/ssh directory on my Linux box and found the dsa and rsa keys (public
and private), but I don't see any certificates that I could export and then
import into my WinXP Internet Options certificate cache. The .pub files in
/etc/ssh don't appear to be certificates (just keys) and Windows doesn't
like the file format (won't import them).
Now putty, on the other hand, is perfectly happy to bring up a dialog box
the first time telling me that it doesn't know about the SSH key on my Linux
box, and then asks if I want to trust it. If I say "yes", it squirrels it
away in the Windows registry and doesn't bother me any more.
Does anyone know how to make Outlook/Windows/Internet Options|Security
happy?
Thanks much. -- Eric
