I don't have the machine in front of me (in any sense) but I do
remember that when I set up the authorized_key I included the pppd
command there, and in pppd config the startup included -t.
If I were doing this over... I think I would look at making pppd a
subsystem in sshd_config. Then you could use the -s command to set up
the connection. If you try that let us know how it works, I think it's
the way to go.
