If the problem is that password authentication doesn't work, then it may
be either:

- OpenSSH is compiled to use PAM, but you haven't configured PAM for SSH

- OpenSSH is *not* using PAM, and the host is using MD5-hashed passwords,
  in which case you must use a version of OpenSSH compiled to deal with
  MD5 passwords
