Perhaps yes, perhaps no. You didn't cite any references. All we got was
your personal claim; perhaps you just forgot to give us the URL or
magazine or newspaper reference so we could verify you didn't leave
anything out?
I'm a CB customer. Have been for years. I saw a recent disclosure telling
me they would share information with 3rd party market analysis firms. I
was not required to accept any download. I was not required to blindly
accept the new policy without recourse; I followed the links to a page
where I submitted a request to opt-out.
I have no new cookies, no new OCX, no new java applets, no new nothing on
my system since then. Of course, I use a couple of anti-spyware tools to
block installtion of these things, and Proxomitron immediately deletes any
and all session cookies when I close my browser, and filters their content
before it goes out the door back to CB. I've had no problem using on-line
banking facilities nor electronic payments as you stated would be the
results.
If what you say is true, I am a little concerned and I would like to know
where I am supposed to look to eradicate any such things off my system.
However, given the generic reference to what they "require" and a more
vague reference to "... XP Systems...soon to spread to all systems..."
(how can you know that it's ONLY XP, or that it will spread to non-XP?) I
rather think it is not the case you described. CB may WANT to capture and
use market data, but without a tool to do it, they can't.
Did you actually read this somewhere and are paraphrasing? If so, where
did you read it? Let us all go have a look and see the details for
ourselves. If not, I have to presume you heard a 5-second soundbyte on the
news, or someone told you this, and in both cases such details as you
quoted are highly unreliable. I've noticed no such limited behavior of my
on-line banking at CB, nor did I ever see such a restrictive usage
statement as your message professes. Please give us some more information
on your sources.
Thanks,
Frisco
