chucker8@rogers.com says...
:hi all,
:
:Win 2000
:Norton Antivirus 2004
:
:Things started when I received a Norton Antivirus program error. On
:the error box there was a link the the Symantec knowledge base.
:
:Here is the link:
:
:http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2003090216305606?OpenDocument&src=_mi&product=NAV&version=10.0&language=english&module=3005&error=584&build=STANDARD
:
:I expanded Windows 2000 and followed the steps to uninstall (I
:uninstalled Norton Internet Security from Add/Remove programs).
:
:After rebooting I got a Windows 2000 warning and prompted me for the
:Win 2000 CD because it was not using the latest versions of system file
:- or something to that effect. I had no choice but to choose Yes to
:continue.
:
:And of course I need to expand the Windows 2000 section in order to
:continue the steps for fixing my ORIGINAL problem !!!
:
:Now, I can access the Internet, but now when I go to the link above I
:can no longer expand the link for Windows 2000. So I followed the steps
:for "Cannot expand sections in a Symantec Knowledge Base document".
:While running the install for the Microsoft Windows Script 5.6 I get
:this error:
:
:INF Install Failure. Reason: Acertificate chain processed correctly,
:but terminated in a root certificate which is not trusted by the trust
:provider.
:
:
:INCIDENTALLY, When I go the website for my ISP provider I get Security
:Alerts warnings, I can get into my e-mail but I can't hit 'Reply' or
:Compose and a lot of images are missing. So essentially I can't send
:e-mail. Some other websites work fine - but it looks like anything with
:SSL is generating erros and a lot of functions in them are not working.
:
:If anyone can give me any tips, experiences
:Thanks very much

I recommend you do yourself a favour and buy nod32 antivirus. It has
excellent detection rates and the "always on" machinery is so efficient
you don't even know it's running. Full scans are very efficient too,
about 175 files per second on my machine.
I never had that experience when I used Symantec, it bogged the machine
down in "always on" mode.

Just a happy camper, no financial interest in this company.
