ACTUALLY...it takes children 5-7 years to begin to learn subject matter
in English if it's not their native language.

In other words, if a child enters school at age 5, and English is his
second language, he will not begin to learn subject matter in English
as well as his English-speaking classmates until he is ten to twelve
years old. That's middle school.

The children will be able to converse quickly, and will probably do well
in math, but they will struggle with English, social studies, and science.

I'm not saying that every child should be taught in his or her native
language - it's cost prohibitive. I'm just pointing out that the reason
behind such a belief is very valid.
