The OS, XP SP1 and SP2, are as stable as any other OS I have installed.
SUSE 9.1 required a reboot after installing Updates, Mandrake 10
required a reboot after a Updates.

Applying service packs and having to reboot to complete the install does
not make the system unstable, it's just an inconvenience.

As for running apps, how about Visual Studio .Net 2005, PhotoShop,
DreamWeaver MX, Gravity, Outlook 2003, and Nero all at the same time -
no problems with the Desktop, no problems with "Discolored" apps, no
hanging, burning CD at 24x at the same time as doing a build.

If you really think that little has changed since 3.1, and I was using
MS products way before 3.1 hit the market, then you really are a troll.
NT, 2000, and XP are nothing like 3.1, are very stable, and other than
service pack updates, I don't seem to have to reboot at all.
