I could run one resident scanner and each of Kaspersky and AntiVir
could be run as on-demand scanners.

Does anyone know if there is a conflict when Kaspersky and AntiVir
are installed on the same machine?

I think you are right if you say "No 2 antivirus products will
[always] work properly when running simultaneously".

My query is to know if Kaspersky and AntiVir can be installed to the
same machine and then run separately.
