I use the free avast! 4 Home Edition and am quite satisfied with it.
Never got infected (which I *did* get when I was still using Norton
AntiVirus (2002), but granted a very short time (IIRC (much) less than a
day) after the virus was first reported).
Depending on your 'mailer', the mail part may be very easy to hard to
set up, but it is very flexible and well documented, so any effort it
takes is effort well spent.
Oh yeah, and the price is right! :-)
