Sites hosting ads don't get money for ads being viewed, they get money for
ads being clicked upon. If I have no intention to click the ads, then whether I
block them or not doesn't change anything from the site owner's or the
advertiser's point of view. If he wanted us to get him money before browsing
his site, he would've forced us to click on them. Are you implying that we
should always click the ads or else we are parasites?
People block ads not because they're mean but because the ads are very
obtrusive. I have nothing against an advertisement which sits quietly in the
corner, waiting to be clicked. If the ad is well done it may even catch my
attention to the point where I actually click on it and check the offer.
This is fair, while splashing something right before my eyes is not. I
sometimes see the book which have advertisements in them, which are probably
there to lower the cost of the book. I have *an option* to read them, and I
often do. If those ads were scrambled between the words in the main text,
I'd put the book away.
