There have been numerous attempts to break into my computer in the last couple days.

I kept getting port scan notices from my firewall. It seemed that the
intruder wannabe couldn't get in, but I was wondering if maybe it was
something a bit more complex than what it looked like.
This was really unusual, in that although I have seen some attempts
before, there were about 5 a minute at one point, and they were all
coming from someone who was connected to my service provider. At first
I thought it was their computer scanning my ports, but they said it
could be any one of their subsribers.
Once before, I got the address, etc, of an attempted break in, and
looked up that address at www.terraserver.microsoft.com , and at the
time the aerial photo was taken by the US Geological Survey, the
address I was looking at was just an empty parking lot, although I'm
assuming something has been built there since.
On the other hand, maybe it's John Ashcroft's people trying it as a
random thing just to see that no one's speeding on the
info-superhighway, and that's okay with me because I'd love to have a
chat with him and a few other people in the US government. I'm all for
the war against terrorism, but I think homegrown criminals may get off
too easy because of the focus of government resources on overseas
matters, and I'd like to see a few people go to jail before the
climate is not amenable to that occurrence.

Cheers!
