I got a pair of APC LS-500 (3 computers to protect) over a year ago. I have
everything from the DSL modem, routers, computers, and monitor plugged in to the
two units.

I hear one, or both, units kick in maybe half a dozen times / week. But all 3
of my computers keep on chugging. Had some hellacious lightning storms last
month. All 3 computers stayed up, stayed on the internet, and dropped not a
byte during the storms.

The LS-500 is the passive type (under $100 /ea). But it performs.
