]All I can say to you is make sure that the site from which you are buying
]goods is on a secure site (ie it has the padlock icon present in the bottom
]right of the browser if using IE). I would personally never buy goods if it
]is an insecure link.
]It is probably more secure than buying something an giving your card number
]over the phone - which some people do.
]Have you ever been to a restaurant and paid by card. They nearly always take
]the card away. What are they doing with it? Are you sure?
While this is true, the web gives billions more people access to your
info than does a restaraunt or the phone. The chances of there being
someone in those billions with the knowledge and predeliction for using
your data is far higher than in your typical restaraunt.
]Nothing is really safe in this world, but in general it is relatively safe
]to buy things over the net via a secure site. If there is any credit card
]fraud, you are usually covered by the card company (except for the first
]£50, but they usually waive that as well).
]As far as identity theft is concerned, the most important thing to keep
]secure is your National Insurance number. If that is stollen, your life as
]you know it can effectively end.
]Hope this helps.
