email scan

I use NIS 2003 as one of my security s/w. I use Outlook Express for
my e-mail. NIS is set-up to scan out going e-mail; a progress screen
appears as the scan occurrs. On occassion the progress scan screen
appears when I have not set an e-mail. Checking the Sent folder of
Outlook Express shows no e-mail sent. What would cause the scanner to
appear? If an e-mail was sent, where can I confirm what was sent?
