The Windows 9'x O/S(s) are a combination of 16 DOS bit DOS and 16/32 bit
Windows. What makes those O/S(s) so crash prone and vulnerable to attack
from a programming standpoint is that the 16 bit DOS shared the same
memory address space and the single 16 bit processing thread with all
other 16 bit programs running in the DOS subsystem. If one 16 bit program
crashed or hung the 16 bit processing thread, the whole DOS subsystem
either crashed or hung as well.

If you have MS Power Point on your machine, then you will be able to view
the link that shows the evolution of the Windows platforms from Windows
1.0 to Win 2K.
