TOKYO, Japan (HNN) -- A new user group made up of hackers and other
persons interested in technology has formed in the famous hi-tech
district of Akihabara in Tokyo. The international "2600" organization,
headquartered in New York City has yet to successfully start-up a
chapter in Japan.

The first meeting of 2004, which was held on Friday February 6th from
6pm was primarily made up of international foreigners, including those
from Canada and the United States. Dented Halo, the hacker handle of
the person who organized this month's first meeting had this to say,
"We hope to make this a successful fusion of east and west, bringing
together a mixture of culture, opinion and skill to such an eclectic
group. Japan and Tokyo in general has a lot to offer in regards to
technology and we want to learn and explore as much of this as
possible in a legal but fun manner."

Congregating at the open source portal of Tokyo, the Linux Cafe is
currently where this hacking group has decided upon calling home for
their gatherings. Each meeting is held at the same time at the same
place, which is the first Friday of every month starting at 6pm. There
is no membership and anyone interested may participate and join in the
meetings. The meetings are not secret, they are open to the public.
