Hello NG
I have a couple of PC's and one of them is my testbed. This morning I
installed the free security suite from Computer Associates. Following
things are worth mentioning:
1. I'm absolutely impressed with the ease the firewall can be
configured.
2. If the number of options to configure the firewall are matched by the
performance it must be one of the best (software)firewalls on the
market.
3. Nevertheless, a look into the registry and some additional research
revealed that the firewall is Zonealarm Pro Version 3.179 first
published in March 2003.
4. The antivirus component is CA as far as I could find out in such a
short period but the core is version 6 and there is already the version
7 on the market.
5. The configurabilty is also top and much beyond what I have seen in Mc
Afee 2004. It comes very close to Norton Antivirus 2003.
My questions are:
1. What is the opinion in this NG about the performance in general?
2. How does the suite or its components compare to commercial products
from Norton, McAfee or other suppliers?
3. Are there any particularly positive or negative experiences with this
suite. (Performance, stability, resouces etc.).
I will test this suite for a couple of weeks on my testbed. If I
encounter something particular I will come up with inormation on this
subject in this NG.
Thanks for any opinions/experiences!
Joerg Lorenz
