I find it convenient to just use winzip's or winrar's password
protection when sending files by e-mail. I have used crypto
software before, some compress files & create self-extract exe files,
some dont.
I like Kremlin & Puffer most.
Files which are not self-extracting(not .exe or .bat), end with an extension
which identifies the software used to encrypt; Kremlin -> .kgb
However, with .exe you just dont know what it is, you can call it Doom.exe.
However, a password protected file cannot be viewed just as an encrypted one,
so why bother the extra time to encrypt?
I know that winzip's password protection is not very strong, and the names of
files within the .zip files could seen. So I am proposing an experiment. I
will password
protect a zip or rar file, upload it, and if someone wants they can crack it.
If it
could be easily and quickly done, then I will go back to using crypto software,
such as PGP maybe.
