[snip]

If as many people were running Linux as were running windows OS's I feel
more than 110% confidant that we would be seeing the same thing being
said about Linux.

Again, while I don't like MS, I can say the following about my MS boxes:

My workstations are very stable - never a fault

My development environment is rock stable

My hardware always seems to work, even new hardware

My applications can read, import, export, etc to just about every format

My news reader (Gravity) running on XP has never failed, nor has Dream
Weaver, video capture app, cd-burner, Counter-Strike, MS SQL 2000, and
bunches of other apps (Page maker, Photoshop)

My Outlook 2002 email app has never infected any of my systems

My Office 2000 and XP apps work flawlessly and provide great creative
power, not to mention the ability to build simple databases (or connect
to my MS SQL 2000 server databases - or my Oracle DB)

NONE of my servers or workstations have ever been compromised - and I've
been doing this since the 70's (no MS, didn't start that till the 80's).

My servers only require reboots for service patches and then only when I
choose to apply them

My Windows XP systems make life simple when it comes to software
selection and day to day operations - including remote access to clients
systems and networks

I have TWO issues with Win XP - it doesn't come with it's cheap firewall
enabled by default, and it comes with all the performance killers
enabled by default.

I have two Linux servers that are just as stable as my Windows 2000
servers, never had a problem with them.

I have several AIX systems that I maintain that are also very stable.

It should also be noted that I run NAV Corporate Edition on my servers
and workstations, the Exchange plugin on my email server, and used a
Proxy or Router until I could purchase a firewall device.

I guess if it was as easy to run all my apps on Linux I might consider
changing, but most of them are not available for Linux, so I'll have to
wait until Linux catches on with the desktop crowd.
