The information in the following Security Bulletin should be
acted upon as soon as possible. Hewlett-Packard Company will
not be liable for any consequences to any customer resulting
from customer's failure to fully implement instructions in this
Security Bulletin as soon as possible.

PROBLEM: #1 A defect in the Java(TM) Virtual Machine may allow
illegal access to protected fields or methods of an
object.
#2 The Java(TM) Secure Socket Extension (JSSE) may
incorrectly validate the digital certificate of a web
site. In addition, the Java Plug-in and Java Web Start
may incorrectly validate the digital certificates of
signed JAR files.
IMPACT: This bug may introduce potential vulnerabilities into any
program. These defects includes the affected libraries.
The resulting vulnerabilities may have one or more of the
following impacts: information leakage, incorrect
execution of code.
There are no known reported attacks based on these
vulnerabilities.
PLATFORM: Any HP-UX system running the HP-UX version of
Java 1.1.X, 1.2.X, 1.3.X, and 1.4.X is affected by #1.
The HP-UX versions of Java 1.3.X, 1.4.X and Webstart
1.0.1.01 are affected by #2.
SOLUTION: Update to version of Java with the security fixes.
The list below describes each Java/Webstart release, and
the corresponding issue number it fixes.
Note: Java 1.1.X has been obsoleted by Sun and HP;
no fix will be provided.
