The body of this posting describes how to purchase an electronic
copy of the book, "Information Systems Security: A Practitioner's
Reference" Second Edition, ISBN 0-9730689-0-6. If this is not
relevant to you, or if you are offended by such a commercial
posting, please skip the rest of this message.

While the book is first and foremost a reference manual and
delves more deeply into many aspects of security than the CISSP
program, the first edition garnered high marks from CISSP
candidates as a review resource. The second edition remains an
excellent comprehensive reference for those who wish to sit for
the Certified Information Systems Security Practitioner (CISSP)
examination.

The second edition is about 40% larger (700+ pages) and includes
much new material on Internet related issues, communications and
networking, and other things that have changed dramatically since
1993. There is an entirely new chapter on intrusion detection,
for example, and the treatment of Risk Management now reflects
research by me and others in 1997-1998 as well as new material
from NIST. Discussion of the Common Criteria has been added.
The Table of Contents has been expanded to a much more detailed
level than the first edition, to provide useful hyperlinks into
the pdf file. Naturally, there's still an extensive index.

The table of contents and index are at :

The cost is US$29.95 for the pdf file. This includes the right
to print copies for personal use (though of course, not for resale).

You can obtain this book at:

(cissp.com also contains a lot of other information and resources
related to the CISSP program as well as security in general; I
highly recommend the site.)

If you need multiple copies for a course or for corporate use,
you may contact the authors directly for volume discounts; the
web site lets you purchase copies one at a time. Contact me at
