Using Kodak CX4230 / Docking Station II / Easy Share Software v 2.1.0.55 /
WinXP Pro
According to so-called 'spyware' detection/removal programs the installed
exe's and dll's in the KODAK folder are "spyware" and "need to be removed
for privacy concerns"
Nested and buried several folders deep from the main Kodak folder and within
the KODAK Software Updater folder specifically one finds many 'backweb"
named files and dll's and whose file properties clearly indicate they are
Backweb (not Kodak) files.
Check them out at www.backweb.com
My Questions then are:
1. What gives and is the new Easy Share 3.xx also going to have this spyware
/ software updater scam??? (IMHO)
2. What is the connection between Backweb and Kodak Software Updater
"feature" ?
3. Can I maintain a real software updater feature w/o running any of the
Backweb exe's and dll's??
4. Why do ALL the spyware detection scanners (3 out of 3 I've tried)
consistently ID Backweb components as "spyware"??
