This has actually changed at the start of this year. They now want a degree
and a certion amount of experience. I would go look at ISC2 web sight for
more info. As for if they check backgrounds. ISC requires applicants to fill
out their work information when you apply for the exam, and they perform
random spot checks on applicants. Since they make you sign a ethics
aggrement any discrepency voids any possiblity of ever becoming certified.

I have heard SANS is very good as well. It depends on what you want exactly.
Since the OP has a lot of hands on certs, he should be aware that the CISSP
is not this type. It is more of a broad view of security from 100ft, ment to
bridge between IT and managment. Not a roll up your sleeves and configure
this firewall/ router cert.
