I realized my mistake just after posting (of course) and tried to cancel
it, but apparently the cancel failed entirely or some newservers didn't
get or honor the cancel request.

Not this Mozilla. It has a "send page" and "send link" neither of which
is appropriate. Netscape does have a send file capablility.
