Consider a hardware solution such as a smart card that needs to be
inserted or a USB token that needs to be plugged in before the laptop
is bootable. I'm using an IBM smartcard kit that's really from Gem
just labelled by IBM and I paid $20.00 including shipping from someone
on Ebay. Works great, offers boot protection, optional encryption,
etc, etc. Avail as a PCMCIA or serial port reader.

You might also consider a biometric USB thumb drive to protect really
sensitive data - they are under $100.

Search google for otfe software if hardware solutions don't thrill
you.
