Thanks for your response. I finally found out that the gun and harp noises came
from Spamkiller notifying me that it had killed some spam. I didn't even know
this program made any noise! The rapping has stopped, so far. Meanwhile, I just
installed ZoneAlarm to give me some peace of mind.
