Hi,
I was looking into the GSEC certifications and heard great things
about it.
everything except for the price of course (i'm still in college, so i
would be paying for this out of my own pocket, not my boss).
I read about the volunteer program they have ($500), and about the CD
(~$700).
But my question is, the GSEC book (amazon)-
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0789727749/qid=1033738049/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/104-7378474-4736764?v=glance&n=507846
or ISBN#- 0789727749
is this book good? (i know it's written by eric cole)
by good i mean-
1. does it also teach you advanced things like network issues e.g.
like how to scan a network through a firewall. or is it simply old
exploits explained?
2. is this book sufficient to prepare me for the GSEC GIAC exam?
(also, it's 1st edition, did another one come out?)
and finally- if there's another good advanced seurity book (system AND
network) out there PLEASE let me know. there's so many books out there
it's hard to sift through the outdated and the low quality ones.
thanks for your time,
-aaron (network admin wannabe)
