Yeah, it is a security fix snuck into the service pack, amongst a large
number of other ones. For years IE had allowed behavior that Netscape
did not allow. They just went and fixed about fifty of these issues.
The issue you are talking about is pretty serious and is used in
a lot of vulnerabilities. This fix really helps them and they should
have done it sooner.
You simply need to find a way around it and NOT consider backtracking
your version. You will not, I believe, be able to set anything to
change this. It is not optional. There is surely a way to get done
what you need to get done safely, though...

I honestly still don't fully understand your model here, and I have
experience with such applications. We used large jar files for a java
app that sped up downloading of files called "Swarmcast" at a place
where I worked. We used a signed distribution and installer from
I forget the name of the company, zero something... then used webstart to start
the app afterwards:->
