Thanks alun, i was carried away here.
You have a valid point.
My recollection of various un*x however tells me that upgrading a system
might be reversible, depending on type of un*x. But there is
always a way to nullify an update that "make things break" - restore
a backup. This might be a short or lengthy process, but since
everything in un*x is files they can all be restored.
Interaction between installed apps and un*x itself is contained within
a few scripts, thus making it possible to install version+1 of a product,
test it and if you dont like it, remove it's assiciated files and go back
to the previous version.
Other unnamed platforms makes this very difficult.
Now if i was developing an app, i would run it on a platform where
largets possible influence of installation process and dependencys
allows me the greatest flexibility.
That was the reason for my comment.
