I am looking into the DUN settings but I can't see anywhere the option to
switch off the "Log onto Networks". Under Security for example I see
options "Typical" and "Advanced". Under typical there's an option to
"Automatically use my windows logon name and password if any". However at
the moment it's set to "Advanced". The connection was set up automatically
by the ISP setup program. Am I looking in the right place (Control Panel /
Network and Internet Settings / Network connections, then look at the
properties of my normal connection)? If you give me a further pointer I'll
check this, but if this was the cause wouldn't it be happening every time I
try to dial in, not just the first time after a reboot?
I switched off Zonealarm, and this made an improvement but it's still a lot
slower the first time I log on after a reboot. If any other programs were
checking for updates, wouldn't the ip addresses they are trying to contact
show up in netstat? After switching off zonealarm I don't see any IP
addressses except ones registered to BT.
cheers
Patrick.
