They are easier to use, since the checking party has no need to secretly
store the checking secret, and for example the signature can be checked by
outside party. They of course do not enforce non-repudation, but thats not
the only point you want to achieve with digital signatures.
Having a non-reputable self securing system like tokens with PIN-pad have
some disadvantages and can't be used in highly automated and high traffic
transactions.
