The important requirements:

- Can be used when the laptop is offline.
- Can be used when the laptop is online but remote.
- Can be used the laptop is online in the office.

Well, unless you host a server locally you've pretty much eliminated SecurID
or Cryptocard.

I'd say look at biometric access. Like the fingerprint scanners that fit in
the PCMCIA slot. Identix makes one. Some laptops have similar devices
integrated now.

Or you can rig up something by which a person would have to present their
private key via removeable media. Say business-card sized CD-R.

I've read about RSA partering with PDA makers and the likes but I'm unsure
what they plan or currently do for the offline requirement. A quick glace
doesn't yield anything inspiring.

Anyhow?

Cheers, -Ali
