Hi MaryAnne

I wouldn't recommend putting anything on the internet without a firewall or
serious access control.

However, if you're looking for something cheap maybe IPCop would fit the
bill http://www.ipcop.org . It is a firewall built on a modified, hardened
Linux kernel, managed by a GUI, supports IPSEC VPN and contains some extra
goodies like a proxy for web browsing and an smtp server if you want to
enable them. You don't have to be a Unix hacker to run it, it boots off CD
and pretty much installs on anything.

Also, if you're not interested in Internet access why not look at Leased
Line from your local Telco. That way you also get guaranteed bandwith and
SLA's, you can treat it as just an extension to your LAN.

Anyway good luck with whatever you choose

Pete
