I'd say no. Encryption is your best bet if you want to secure your
network activity.

If you wish to communicate securely in realtime, you may be interested
in Simp, see http://www.winfosec.com/simp.php. Simp is a very basic
instant messaging program which encrypts all messages using Blowfish,
and sends the messages from peer to peer instead of relaying through a
central server. The encryption bit level is limited due to US export
regulations, but the source code is available if you're inclined to
compile your own version with stronger key capability. Both the
program and the source are free. And even your parents can figure out
how to use it :)

I gather from your message that you aren't based in the USA; therefore
your use of Simp may be restricted depending on your home country.
