I passed it a few weeks ago about two weeks after I did the CIW
Internetworking Professional exam. I was on annual leave at the time
so I spent a few hours each day studying the material and practicing
on my home network.
Study materials I used was the official study material in a 5 day
course or you can get the material at www.computerprep.com. I also did
a fair bit of self study using various books and a number of IT
security web sites.
I don't believe in using braindumps, I prefer to study the material
until I know it well enough that I am confident of passing. I usually
map study material against the test objectives.
Make sure you know:
The different types of attacks
The different types of exploits and what part of the OSI model they
occur on as well as what exploits apply to which service (eg Telnet
issues, HTTP issues)
Well known port numbers for various services
How a TCP connection is established and terminated (Active open,
passive open etc)
IP address classes
Private addresses
Encryption (Symmetric , Assymetric, etc)
Firewalls - different types, roles etc. Firewall rules etc
Tools and Utilities. Know what various tools and utilities do, what
they are used for, their switches and output etc.
