can ISP hack me ?

hello friends ,
i dial to my isp via a telephone number they gave me.

Is it possible that when i am on the internet they can log all my activites
, which site i visit and what all i do , can they also see my hard drive ,
etc. Someone told me its possible ,
but i used to think that at maximum they can just disconnect me when i am
online..

just curious to know as we normally dial through their gateway.
