When your computer boots, one of the messages should be "Press X to
enter setup". X is often <del>, but sometimes it's <f1> or <f2>. Once
you are in setup, look for something labeled password. There are often
two passwords, or a password and a type setting, so that you can choose
to restrict access to setup (often called a "setup password") or to
require a password to boot (often called a "system password"). Note
that if you have a laptop, resetting this password if you forget it can
be... awkward.
