Number theory is an advanced field of math, that's typically taught as part
of the mathematics degree program at universities. It's hard to explain
what it is simply; it's mainly about dealing with sets of numbers that have
certain properties when you operate on them. Examples of sets that are
particularly useful in cryptography are prime numbers, products of prime
numbers, and modular groups.
