I have started researching the feasability of implementing two-factor
authentication for our VPN users (we also wish to evaluate with a few
different vpn clients). This lead to further research into using
digital certificates to authenticate users on the VPN server (Cisco
PIX). I am considering using Rainbow Technologies iKey 1000
(basically a USB smartcard device that fits on a key chain) to store
digital certificates.
I will require a certificate authority and directory server.
I contacted Entrust to enquire about their Entrust Authority product.
Because of the market that we are in, this will very likely be the
product we will select. My intent is to first evaluate the technical
documentation to get a feel for the implementation, deployment, and
maintenance of this product. This would also allow me to ask more
informed questions of Entrust's staff saving everybody's time and
efforts.
Entrust has refused to provide any such documentation insisting this
is only available with the product. Entrust has suggested that I will
be disclosing this documentation to their competitors. I have offered
to sign a non-disclosure agreement which was not acceptable to
Entrust.
Entrust also insists that to evaluate the product we must enter an
agreement that binds us to purchasing the solution if it is
successful.
Considering the cost of this product is $80,000, I find these tactics
appauling. How common is this?
If anyone knows of another approach to review this technical
documentation it would be greatly appreciated.
Entrust's sales support is arrogant, impractical and the worst I have
ever seen. If anyone can recommend a competitor I am prepared to
consider other options given this treatment from Entrust.
By the way, I represent a major financial services provider.
Regards,
Brian
