Hi Charles,
I have experimented with a couple different firewall applications with mixed
results.
I've worked with ZoneAlarm which is very popular and has a free version, and
seems to work well. I believe the website for Zone Alarm is zonelabs.com or
you can find it at download.com.
ZoneAlarm, when installed, blocks everything by default. That would do the
trick, blocking UDP port 3456 should be included there :). ZoneAlarm alerts
you as other programs try to access the Internet such as Internet Explorer
or when other computers try to get in. At that time you can allow the
connection or block it.
ZoneAlarm is good for the beginner.
Lately though I've been playing with Deerfields Advanced Firewall. It's in
beta so it's free, I'm not sure what the price is once it's released. As
the name implies, it's more advanced :).
After the Advanced Firewall is installed, it runs a configuration wizard
that asks what programs you'd like to allow access to the Internet. You can
change this at any time. I like this option better (being more experienced
with Internet applications) so I can set it all up up front rather than get
nagged like ZoneAlarm does - YMMV. I like the logging better in Advanced
Firewall too.
With Advanced Firewall I believe it blocks all traffic that's not otherwise
specifically allowed (just like ZoneAlarm) so just don't open UDP port 3456
and that should be all you need to do :).
Have fun!
