Cannot view shared folders

Hi there all,
A new guy has move into my Halls in University. He has connected his PC

to our LAN - He can use the internet with no problems.
On our LAN we have 7 wired computers all on the MSHOME Workgroup... we
can all see each other eg for file sharing etc.

The problem is, is that he cannot see us and we can't see him on the
network. When he clicks my network places he cannot see anything.

He is uaing Win Xp SP2.

He has Norton Internet Security Installed. Even when I disable this
nothing happens.

He can ping other computers on the network but he cannot map the
drives.

Can anyone give a hint as to what the problem is.
