Incoming port accesses from China

I'm getting an indordinate number of port accesses from China.
I use IP WhoIs to find the address range for the company that
owns the IP address, and block the whole range. I'm curious
why only China, and nowhere else, in the past few months. Is
it as simple as the (likely) fact that they haven't yet becomes
as vigilent against infections?
